Whole Grains Vs White or Refined Grains
In this episode we will be discussing the differences between whole grains and white or refined grains. An example is whole grain bread or white grain bread, which one is better for our health and also why. The grain that produces flour contains three parts, the brand, the germ and the endosperm. The bran contains fiber, vitamin B, and also trace minerals. The endosperm is full of carbohydrates and proteins and the germ contains B vitamins, vitamin E, antioxidants and also healthy fats. The whole grain products contain all three parts of a grain while the white or refined products contain only the starchy endosperm, having the bran and the germ which are nutrient rich and fiber rich parts, removed. As a result white grain products allow glucose which is a simple sugar enter your bloodstream much faster leading to blood sugar spikes and also crashes that leave you irritable and hungry shortly after eating. Some manufacturers enrich white grain products with additional vitamins but it is better to eat whole grain products when is possible.
