In this article, we are talking about turmeric and how to incorporate it into your life!

So, what is turmeric: Turmeric is part of the ginger family that is grown in India and other Southeast Asian countries. The dried root of the plant is the ground yellow powder that is quite distinctive. Researchers consider it a really powerful herb that can fight and potentially reverse disease which is why turmeric is one of the most frequently mentioned medicinal herbs in all of science. Apparently, it has been used for medicinal purposes for nearly 4000 years.

Amongst other things, turmeric contains potassium, iron and dietary fiber. Curcumin which is the main active ingredient in turmeric has a powerful anti-inflammatory effects and can be used as an antioxidant.

Studies shows that turmeric can improve depression, treat inflammation and skin conditions. As a result of its anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties, turmeric / curcumin can manage and treat arthritis. Additional studies show that turmeric can help treat cancer, reverse many issues related to insulin resistance and help treat cholesterol.

There are side effects to turmeric, so if you are new to it, then do consume it in smaller amounts initially to check how it affects your body. If you take medication, use turmeric as instructed by your doctor as any other herbal supplement.

Turmeric is a wonderful herb to include in your diet and I have noticed improvement in my weight management since consuming it, so I highly recommend it with the caveats mentioned in the previous paragraph.

You can incorporate turmeric in many different ways in your diet, one of them is to use it as a herb or spice when cooking. I like to throw it in with chickpeas, curries, on sweet potatoes when I bake them in the oven. I also like to have it as part of a hot drink, such as turmeric or golden latte, or a little bit with hot water and coconut flakes or with camomile or greek mountain tea.

I hope you found this useful!

Always grateful,

Christina xx
