HOW TO COOK BUCKWHEAT | Buckwheat recipe

This video is a tutorial on how to make buckwheat. Buckwheat is a seed and not a wheat, which means it is gluten-free, thus making it appropriate for anyone that is celiac or is intolerant to gluten.

This ingredient is great to include in your diet because of its high composition in complex carbohydrates, ideal for people with type 2 diabetes and those looking to manage their blood sugar spikes. It is becoming all the more popular as it contains other macro- and micro-nutrients such as protein, fats, a variety of minerals and antioxidants.

  • 1 + 1/2 cups of buckwheat seeds

  • 3 cups of water

  • 1/2 red onion, sliced thinly

  • 1 or 1/2 bell pepper sliced thinly

  • 1 leek, roughly cut

  • 1 medium carrot, grated

  • 2 handfuls of mushrooms, chopped

  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce

  • seasoning (salt + pepper)


  1. Check the portion you are cooking for any black rocks and remove them.

  2. Rinse the seeds and set them aside.

  3. In a pan, add a generous portion of olive oil and the vegetables, leaving them to cook for approximately 5 mins in medium heat.

  4. Add the two tbsp of tomato sauce, stir he ingredients until wilt and soft. Stir more if appropriate.

  5. Add the buckwheat on top of the vegetables and top up with water. Season and leave to cook in low heat for approximately 40mins until the water is fully absorbed.

  6. Serve as is or with yogurt on the side.
