In this video, I am going to share with you alternatives to some unhealthy foods, to help you with the decision process when you are either deciding to eat at home, on the go or when eating out.
Tip No. 1 - Swap carbs to protein-based breakfast
First of all, start your day with a breakfast that contains some type of protein such as a smoothie with protein powder, eggs with vegetables and avoid breakfasts that are high in carbs and sugar such as oats, cereals or bagel. Protein-based breakfast is a great way to start your day as it can fuel you up after one of the longest time of fasting that your body goes through while you sleep. Protein builds and repairs tissues in the body, helps producing hormones and enzymes and will keep you satisfied for longer.
Tip No. 2 - Replace fresh juices with smoothies or infused water
Replace fresh juices with smoothies as juices do not contain fiber. Fiber helps us manage our blood sugar level and keeps us satisfied for a much longer period of time. Fresh juices especially if they contain fruit, tend to be high in natural sugar which may spike blood sugar, and cause premature cravings for sugary foods.
Tip No. 3 - Use almonds instead of croutons
You know the croutons in salads such as ceazar salad, well you can easily replace them with almonds. Trust me your salads will taste much better and also will be more filling.
Tip No. 4 - Swap spaghetti with spaghetti squash
I have quite a few people saying that replacing spaghetti with squash spaghetti was easy. Squash is a vegetable that is rich in fiber, so it is quite satisfying plus has a lot more nutrients than in traditional spaghetti. Sounds win-win to me.
Tip No. 5 - Replace milk chocolate with dark chocolate
Soooo this one should be a no brainer, replacing milk chocolate with dark chocolate. Chocolate is considered the new-antidepressant drug. In a study, scientists noticed that between two groups, one that was consuming a chocolate drink everyday compared to the one that didn’t, the individuals of the former were much calmer. The difference between milk chocolate and dark chocolate is that milk contains additionally milk and the content of cocoa is less and thus nutrients occurs in smaller quantities, plus some milk chocolate have more preservatives and emulsifiers, some of which can be harmful for the health.
Tip No. 6 - Replace fizzy drinks with water, infused water or apple cider tonic
Who is a fizzy drinker? It may be worthwhile making an effort to replace some of the fizzy drinks you consume with simple water, infused water or my tonic water with apple cider vinegar, turmeric and black pepper, the recipe of which you can find in the description of this video.
Tip No. 7 - Swap mayo with hummus or avocado paste
I understand that you may be fans of mayo, but trust me if you start using hummus or avocado paste instead, you and your body will be grateful to me. The reason? Well mayo is high in preservatives but also unhealthy fats, is quite calorific which means your waistline potentially suffers as a result, not to mention various health issues that can be caused from a prolonged consumption. Hummus or guacamole or simply a mashed avocado are much better options to satisfy you.
Tip No. 8 - Replace white with fibrous vegetables
My last alternative for today is replacing some of the rice that usually come with food with a variety of vegetables especially vegetables that are rich in fiber such as beetroot, cucumber, carrot.
...and these were my recommendations. Let me know if these made or will make your decisions about your health much easier.
