Our mind tends to live in the past or in the future and rarely it does in the present.
...I am not here to preach you about the importance of living in the present, you probably already know it. However, I want to bring another impact of not living in the present forward which was a great realisation for me.
Imagine for a moment being in a place full of crowd, imagine hanging out with your friends, having a great time and suddenly imagine listing in your mind all the things you need to do the next day? What happens then? Exactly, you get stressed and stopped enjoying the moment. The very thing you want to do is just run out of that place and into your bed so you can wake up in the morning and do all the things you have just gone through in your mind.
...but what would happen if, for just a moment, you did not have to worry about that list? If that moment, in that venue, with those people is all that it was? What would you do then?
A lot of times, we do something, we make a decision in the present because of something we are expecting to happen in the future? But even the best plans, do not turn out to be exactly as we have in mind and then we regret not being more present when we could've.
Planning, anticipating, preparing are all good but there are moments where you need to just be in the now, and enjoy where it takes you because a lot of times, those moments do not happen again.
How can you know what moments are the ones you may want to relax into? I have three questions for you and if the answer to all of them is yes, then immerse in the moment and enjoy what it brings.
1. Are you having fun?
2. Do you trust and enjoy being with the people that surround you?
3. Is it ok to skip or do another day the things on your tomorrow's list?
Most of the time, your campus in life should be how you feel and so if you are enjoying yourself, stay in that moment as much as possible. The second point is mainly around people you know and people you just met. Joining a group of people on your own or that you haven't made a rapport earlier may not be such a great idea. Be spontaneous when it feels safe as well. On the last point, we put importance and urgency to some tasks without a real need for it. So, be honest with yourself because you may be making sacrifices which will frustrate you later.
